Why it works as a base
Wisła sits at the head of the Vistula valley, hemmed in by the Silesian Beskids, and the riding starts the moment you roll out of the door. There is no flat warm-up here: you pick a side of the valley and climb it. Surfaces on the main pass roads are decent, gradients mostly sit in the five-to-seven percent range, and the pitches that hurt are short rather than sustained. The road most people come for is Przełęcz Kubalonka, heading south-west out of town, but the local diet also includes Przełęcz Salmopolska to the east and Równica above Jaszowiec, both close enough to reach in a warm-up. Przełęcz Salmopolska is the one you can ride from the front door: 8.3 km at 5.2% from Wisła, 429 m of gain to a summit at 934 m, maximum around 11.3%.
